Press statement by the President of the Republic, Michel Temer, after meeting with President-elect Jair Bolsonaro - Planalto Palace
Planalto Palace, 07 November 2018
Well, I want to address everyone to, repeating the words of president-elect Jair Bolsonaro, to say that I had the pleasure of receiving him. And, while meeting with him, we were able, naturally, to deliver to him what our government has done over these two-and-a-half years and what still remains to be done... and, of course, what remains to be done, for the sovereign appreciation of the President-elect.
I also added that we are here, naturally, willing to collaborate intensely. It is not only a formal collaboration, but it is a true collaboration. And I even asked his excellency, the president-elect, to send us any bills that are still pending in the Chamber of Deputies and Senate which it is in their interest to see approved. If so, we will make every effort to obtain approval. First point.
Secondly, I invited President Bolsonaro, if he can, to travel with me abroad. There are some scheduled trips. I even mentioned the G20, which will be at the end of the month. I don't know if the president can, but I told him that when he wants to, we can go abroad together.
And of course, we will also deliver, let us say, symbolically, the keys to where the cabinet will be. And on day one, on January 1st, I will be pleased to hand over to President Bolsonaro, who has conducted a wonderful election campaign... I shall have the pleasure, let us say, symbolically, of handing over the keys to the Planalto Palace.
President Bolsonaro was kind enough to say, as he just mentioned, that he relies on our collaboration now and eventually, if necessary, with us, with our collaboration, in directing any talks that we may have after President Bolsonaro, already elected, has taken office.
But it is with great pleasure that I received him here. And I think that what this political-administrative moment means, is [that it is] no longer a political-electoral moment, in which there were controversies, but a political-administrative moment, in which all Brazilians must unite, fraternally, and walk hand in hand for the prosperity of Brazil.
I have already seen that this is exactly and precisely the position of President-elect Bolsonaro. So let us all go forward together, for the good of the country.
Thank you for your visit.
