General Attorney of The Republic
A lawyer with a degree from Bauru Law School (state of São Paulo), André Luiz de Almeida Mendonça will head the General Attorney's Office (AGU), where he currently works a career staff civil servant and has held the positions of Internal Affairs Officer and Director of Assets and Probity. More recently, he coordinated negotiation teams of the leniency agreements signed by AGU and the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU). Mendonça holds a PhD in Law and Global Governance and master's degree in Anti-Corruption Strategies and Integrity Policies, both from the University of Salamanca, with his doctoral and master's thesis having won awards for extraordinary work at the same university. He also holds a postgraduate degree in Public Law from the University of Brasilia (UnB). FACTSHEET | PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION In 2011, he won the Innovare Award for conceiving and coordinating a group at the AGU for the recovery of assets that had been embezzled in corruption cases, recovering billions of reais to the public coffers.
