Fernando Azevedo e Silva

An Army General since 2014, Silva hails from the city of Rio de Janeiro. In his military life, he undertook regular courses related to an officer's career, in addition to others like basic parachuting, skydiving master, basic and advanced free-fall skydiving and pathfinders. Abroad, he undertook a high-altitude operational free-falling course in Pau (France) and served as Chief of Operations of Brazil's II Contingent at the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.

As General Officer, he commanded the Parachute Infantry Brigade and the Army's Physical Training Center. Subsequently, he was appointed Director of the Department of Military Sports of the Ministry of Defense and served as President of the Olympic Public Authority. He also headed the Eastern Military Command and cumulatively served as General Air Defense Coordinator for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He also served as Army Chief of Staff.

His last role before assuming the Ministry of Defense was as Special Advisor to the Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court.
