Unanimous decision considered external scenario and gradual improvement of the economy
In a unanimous decision on Wednesday (19), the Central Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) decided to maintain Brazil's benchmark rate, the Selic, at 6.5% per year.
The decision was motivated by the challenging external scenario, which indicates little propensity of the foreign market to invest in emerging economies. However, the Committee emphasised that the Brazilian economy is in gradual recovery, favouring the adoption of monetary stimuli, which also guided the maintenance of the rate.
