Industry output sees growth in 2018

Industry production ended last year with widespread growth in the Brazilian regions. According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 11 of the 15 sites surveyed showed progress, with national average growth of 1.1%. The data was released this Friday (January 8).
The result shows the continued recovery of national industry, which grew for the second consecutive year, after several retractions during the previous years of the economic recession.
Highlights
According to the survey, the highest growth rates were seen in the states of Pará (+9.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (+5.5%), Amazonas (+5.2%), Pernambuco, Santa Catarina (+4.0%), Paraná (+1.8%) and Rio de Janeiro (+1.8%). In the year, the only falls were recorded in Goiás (-4.5%), Minas Gerais (-1.0%), Espírito Santo (-0.9%) and Mato Grosso (-0.1%).
National result
Together, the state-level results add up to a national average growth rate of 1.1% in 2018, the second consecutive year of industrial growth. For 2019, analysts heard by the Central Bank are expecting to see 3.04% growth in domestic industry.
