Brazil is expected to consolidate a second consecutive year of GDP growth and the country's recovery from a long recession, according to data released by the Brazilian Central Bank on Friday (January 15).
Considered a “preview” of GDP, the Central Bank's Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br) recorded a 1.15% rise last year. The GDP is the sum of all goods and services produced by Brazil in a given period, a metric used as a standard to measure economic activity.
In 2017, the Brazilian economy reversed two consecutive years of GDP decline to grow 1.1%, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which publishes the official number. The results of last year will be announced by IBGE on February 28th.
