A Brazilian Air Force plane landed in Boa Vista (RR) on Friday (February 22) to bring humanitarian aid to Venezuela. The aircraft carries 23 tons of powdered milk and 500 first aid kits. These will add up to 51 tons of sugar that are stored at the Air Base already stored in the state capital.
Brazilian authorities are deciding on the best way to distribute the food by Saturday (February 23). Despite the closure of the border since the night of Thursday (February 21), the Brazilian government decided to maintain support for the Venezuelans. “Operations by our agencies will continue, and no changes are being made to any of the standards of behavior of our troops. We remain ready as always to defend our sovereignty,” said Brazilian Presidency spokesperson General Rêgo Barros.
Also on Friday (February 22), Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo is traveling to Cúcuta (Colombia), on the border with Venezuela, to attend an event to address the crisis together with authorities from other countries in the region. On Saturday (February 23), he will be in Roraima to accompany the aid being provided to Venezuelans.
Lima Group
Araújo is also part of the Brazilian delegation put together by Vice President Hamilton Mourão and members of other areas of government to represent Brazil in a meeting of the Lima Group scheduled for next Monday (25) in Colombian capital Bogotá. The goal is to discuss how the democratic transition process is evolving in Venezuela.
The Lima Group consists of 14 American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Saint Lucia) and was created to discuss the current status of neighboring country in order to contribute to the restoration of democracy in Venezuela.
