In a ceremony at Planalto Palace, President Jair Bolsonaro said that presidents chosen for Brazil's public banks were done so without political interference, and that these executives were free to choose their team.

The statements were made on Monday (January 7th) during the swearing-in ceremony of presidents Rubem Novaes (Banco do Brasil), Joaquim Levy (BNDES) and Pedro Guimarães (Caixa Econômica Federal). In his speech, Bolsonaro stressed that Brazilian public bank actions will be transparent and that the current administration will make measures taken in other governments public. "They were let free to choose their entire high management team, without political interference," he said. "Transparency above all. All our acts will be open to the public, and so will acts that occurred in the past as well," he added.

According to Bolsonaro, ensuring public banks and economic policy in general are managed under exclusively technical terms will be important to overcome the economic crisis, reduce unemployment and fight crime. "If the economy is good, we will have more jobs, the rate of violence will decrease, and satisfaction will be felt among the people," he said.

Resource management

Bolsonaro also stressed that public resources will be managed with rigor and control, including money transfers to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and advertising funds in the communication market. "Any resources released will be tightly controlled so that we can make sure they are being well used," he concluded.
