As part of the efforts to prevent foot-and-mouth disease from migrating to Brazil, the Brazilian government will send 1.6 million doses of vaccine against the disease to Venezuela. Of this total, 800,000 are for the border area between the two countries.

One of the goals is to vaccinate 100% of the herd of the Venezuelan state of Bolívar, which borders Brazil's state of Roraima, against the disease. At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) is planning a strategy to register the country's properties, conduct clinical inspection of animals and collect samples. The collected data will be sent to the Brazilian laboratory in Pedro Leopoldo (MG), an international reference for foot-and-mouth disease.

Immunisation

According to Guilherme Marques, Director of the Department of Animal Health at the Agriculture Ministry, Brazil will donate a total 20 million doses, of which 500,000 have already been sent. The remaining doses are under the custody of MAPA and must be picked up by Venezuelan aircraft.
