The Brazilian government will invest R$ 35.25 million for the production and marketing of electronic games and another R$ 10 million in accelerators. The announcement was made on Wednesday (5 December) during the launch ceremony of a new policy held during the Comic Con Experience in São Paulo.
Brazil is currently the 13th largest producer of games in the world. The exponential growth of the sector in the country was remembered by Culture Minister Sá Leitão. “There has been very strong growth since the first census conducted in 2014. The industry is growing at an exponential rate, well above the average for the creative economy, which is already very high. I believe that the demand proves the appropriateness of these credit lines”.
About 400 game companies are active in the country and produce games regularly. New projects will be selected through three public calls. The Ministry of Culture will launch a specific announcement to select the accelerators, following the startup support model used by the National Development Bank (BNDES) called the BNDES Garage Programme.
