Aneel authorises power auction for August
Agência Brasil

More than a thousand bids were submitted
Brazil's National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) issued the rules for the next energy auction, scheduled for 31 August, this Tuesday (1 August). The companies selected will start supplying power in 2024.
The tender will offer hydroelectric plant projects, for which winning bidders must commit to offer power supply for 30 years; wind farms, which must generate energy for 20 years; and biomass, natural gas and coal-fired thermoelectric plants, which will be expected to operate for 25 years.
In all, 1,090 project proposals were registered by the Energy Research Company (EPE), which would add 59,116 megawatts (MW) to the country's installed capacity. Aneel also set the maximum prices the government will accept to pay under the auctions for energy production: R$ 290.00 per MWh for hydroelectric plants; R$ 227 per MWh for wind farms; and R$ 308 per MWh for thermoelectric plants.
