In recent years, the opening up of Mercosur has opened the door to new trade possibilities

The unity of countries around Mercosur has strengthened the bloc in the international scenario and allowed for new possibilities on foreign trade, President Michel Temer assessed on Monday (18 June).

“I think we are going even further, in an absolute unity of Mercosur, which naturally seeks international agreements," the president said after a lunch offered by Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes during the bloc's summit. "When we present ourselves as Mercosur, this has a much greater significance in the international arena," he concluded.

Agreements

According to the president, Mercosur has made further progress in trade negotiations with other blocs and countries, including the European Union and the Pacific Alliance (which includes Mexico, Peru, Chile and Colombia).

“The agreement with the European Union has never progressed as much as it did in recent years," he said, adding also that "once again, it became evident that we can promote Mercosur's alliance with the Pacific Alliance".
