Temer: Changes to build a safer Brazil have already begun

President assessed that measures such as the creation of the Unified Public Security System will help curb violence in the country

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the National Seminar on Public Security on Wednesday (13 June), President Michel Temer said that the changes needed to build a safer Brazil "have already begun." As an example, he mentioned the Unified Public Security System (Susp), sanctioned this week, adding that it will be based on "integration" between public security agencies and the federal, state and municipal government.

With Susp, security forces across the country will enjoy a standardised database, shared intelligence, and common strategies. "We know full well that organised crime is highly sophisticated, and so must be the fight against it," he said, noting that resources for the area are guaranteed by a provisional measure signed on Monday (11 June).

During his speech, Temer paid tribute to the officers attending the event. "Also because we need resources, we have signed a Provisional Measure that guarantees a continuous source of money for public security," he said. The seminar takes place on Wednesday and Thursday (13-14 June) at the National Academy of the Federal Police in Brasília (DF).
