In an interview in Brazilian television on Sunday (6 May), President Michel Temer attributed the achievements of his almost two years of administration to intense dialogue with various sectors of society. "Dialogue is one of the foundations of my administration. Everything that we have achieved over time, in dialogue with National Congress, in dialogue with society, we have achieved through this dialogue," he said.
Work and employment
Temer recalled the positive job numbers observed in the first months of 2018. "The economy added 79 thousand jobs with a formal contract in January; in February, 67 thousand; in March, 57 thousand. These numbers are from the Caged [Registry of Employees and Unemployed Persons] of the Ministry of Labour”.
Economy
The president also highlighted the recovery of Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which was in decline in the beginning of his administration and is now expected to grow between 2.5% and 3% this year. "The economy is recovering, little by little," Michel Temer reassured.
Approval of bills
For the president, topics like the Positive Register (a national registry of people without debt); the implementation of payroll tax exemptions for new sectors of the economy; and in particular, the capitalisation of Eletrobras, are among the priorities of the Executive branch. "This capitalisation is key to bringing resources to the federal government and will certainly assure a successful administration. Otherwise, the federal government will be the only one to put money into Eletrobras.”
Public Security
According to Michel Temer, the federal intervention in Rio de Janeiro also aims to integrate the intelligence forces to fight crime, in addition to restoring security to the entire population of Rio. "Before, the intelligence services did not communicate. What we are doing is integrating them, throughout the various Brazilian states, with the federal government. It's no use just patrolling streets to fight crime," the president said.
