Government debates priority measures with coalition senators
Leaders of the government coalition in the Federal Senate met with President Michel Temer on Tuesday (24 April) to discuss the list of priority measures for economic development presented by the Brazilian government at the beginning of the year, including the end of payroll tax exemptions for certain sectors and the capitalisation of Eletrobras.
According to Secretary of Government Carlos Marun, the measures will contribute to maintain Brazilian economic activity on its current upward trend. "We will continue to insist on these bills, which we believe to be essential for Brazil," he told a news conference in the Presidential Palace: "The measures influence budgetary issues related to fiscal adjustments."
Another measure discussed with the senators was the bill that would expand the Positive Register (a sort of "good payer" list), which, among other advantages, will benefit consumers with more affordable credit. "No one will be compelled to be included in the positive register if they do not wish to do so; adhesion will be fully voluntary," said the secretary.
