In a meeting with leaders of the government coalition in Congress, President Michel Temer reinforced the importance of approving bills considered fundamental to leverage the country's growth, such as the capitalisation of Eletrobras. The meeting took place on Tuesday (17) afternoon at the Presidential Palace.

According to the General Secretary of Government, Carlos Marun, parliamentarians are "receptive to the bill" that addresses the future of the State-owned electric company. "If we do not open capitalisation to the private sector, the government will have to do it, which will mean less money for education, less resources for healthcare, public security and other essential sectors," he told reporters.

Another priority action under consideration in the Legislative is the end of payroll tax exemptions. "The end of exemptions strengthens the government's revenue sources and makes room for new investment possibilities," Marun said. The parliamentarians and the President also discussed other Provisional Measures (a sort of executive order) on matters of import for the government.

The government coalition leader in the National Congress, federal deputy André Moura (PSC-SE), declared that the coalition is committed to Brazil, and understands the importance of the measures for the country. "We will work to be able to vote the priorities of the government," he said.
