Private sector partnerships and concessions were highlighted by President Michel Temer as crucial for the development of the Brazilian economy. "We have opened a lot of government and public activities to the private sector, and are offering a number of concessions of activities in the areas of oil and gas, energy, highways, railways and airports," the president said in a bilateral meeting with US congresspeople held this Saturday (14 April) on the sidelines of the 8th Summit of the Americas.

Temer stressed that the United States is one of Brazil's top trade partners, and encouraged new US investments in energy and industry. "We are opening new administrative acts for these partnerships," he confirmed. The meeting participants also discussed the taxation of steel and aluminum, which is being negotiated between the parties. "Arriving at a good resolution on this matter is crucial for us," he said.

Earlier this morning, in a bilateral meeting with Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, the two Heads of State discussed possible agreements that could enhance the trade relationship between the two countries and defended an alliance between Mercosur and the Pacific countries. "We are going to develop and grow much with this [engagement]," Temer predicted.
