"Brazil and Chile have advanced in their economic relations," President Michel Temer assessed during the official signing of cooperation agreements between the two countries on Friday (27 April). Temer received the president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, in the Presidential Palace to celebrate the partnerships and strengthen bonds between the two nations.
“What we are doing is encouraging trade and investment between our countries so they can grow even more. It is no longer a matter of eliminating tariff barriers, but of overcoming regulatory barriers between Brazil and Chile," Temer said, adding that "we are historical partners with shared values and interests, such as democracy, human rights, growth with job creation and Latin American integration among nations."
In his speech, Piñera reinforced the ideal of friendship among nations and emphasised that Brazil attracts Chileans not only due to trade opportunities, but also for its nature, folklore and joyfulness. "Facilitating trade is important for us to have real integration in our continent. The relationship between Brazil and Chile is stronger than ever," the Chilean president said.
In addition to the two Heads of State, the agreements were also signed by Brazilian Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Aloysio Nunes) and Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (Marcos Jorge de Lima), as well as by Chilean Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero.
