Temer: "Employment is what brings optimism"

President Michel Temer reinforced on Friday (23 March) that the positive scenario in the economy has been fundamental to the recovery of investments and renewed job creation in the country. Speaking during a visit to the Fiat Chrysler plant in Pernambuco, the president celebrated the latest numbers from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged).
According the Register, Brazil added 139,000 jobs with a formal contract in the first two months of the year. "Brazil cannot run on pessimism. On the contrary, it has to live on optimism," he said. "No one hires, no one extends work days, without a favourable economic horizon.”
Innovation and wealth
The Fiat Chrysler factory alone hired an additional 1,500 workers this year. According to Temer, the scenario of job openings reflects renewed investor confidence in the country's economic advances. "I saw that I was travelling through a Brazil that creates innovation, that creates wealth, that creates employment," Temer said.
The president also recalled other economic indicators that attest to the improvement of the economic scenario, such as the recent drop (to 6.5%) of the benchmark interest rate (Selic), which makes it easier for households to have access to cheaper credit. Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to grow 3% this year.
