Brazil received 616 e-visa applications from US tourists in the first week of operation of the simplified electronic system. Of those, 327 had already been issued by Thursday (1 February).

The simplified electronic visa process, the so-called e-visa, began working in Brazil on November 21, at the time only for Australian visitors, and then gradually enabled for Japanese, Canadian and US tourists. The Ministry of Tourism says about 570,000 US tourists travel to Brazil each year, injecting US$ 710.5 million into the economy.

The visas are valid for two years or for the period of validity of the passport. According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, visitors seeking visas for longer stays must seek a Brazilian consular representation.
