Accompanied by Justice and Public Security Minister Torquato Jardim and the head of the Institutional Security Office, Sérgio Etchegoyen, President Michel Temer received a Russian delegation to discuss Brazil's bilateral partnership with the country in areas such as international security and intelligence. Russia was represented by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, and other members of the country's delegation in Brazil.

Cooperation in the area of intelligence to combat border crime was one of the highlights, as was issues of security during the World Cup, which will be held in Russia next year. The two countries already have agreements in the area of security within the framework of the BRICS (group formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

“Brazil will find in Russia a partner in defending the same ideals in multilateral financial organizations, in the World Trade Organization and, above all, in the United Nations" Minister Etchegoyen said in a second meeting between Brazilian and Russian officials after the meeting with Temer.

Secretary Nikolai Patrushev thanked the Brazilian government for the cooperation efforts and showed interest in the way Brazil carries out border security in South America.
