The Serra da Moeda is one of the mountain ranges that form the Serra do Espinhaço, in Minas Gerais. The mountain’s name refers to the exploitation of precious metals in the region during the colonial period and the existence of a clandestine factory of coin foundry.
Prehistoric archaeological sites, with rock paintings and ceramics from the indian population who inhabited the region, were discovered there.
The Serra da Moeda is located just 25 Km from Belo Horizonte and has one of the most spectacular views of the mountains of Minas Gerais. The mountain range, 1500 meters above sea level, has a natural ramp for hang gliding and paragliding and is also a great spot for panoramic balloon flights.
Those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground can choose between hiking, visiting waterfalls, iron ore caves, historic ruins or to relax in one of the hotels, restaurants and charming Inns scattered along the mountain range.
